Training
and Education
The
provision of education and training of staff and patients/clients
is an integral part of quality and safety. HCI
provides specific courses which are matched to the requirements
of its clients. These courses aim to provide practical
knowledge to staff and stakeholders that can be put
to use in the Irish health system. All programmes utilise
interactive presentations, work groups and practical
examples.
Introduction
to Effective Clinical Audit
This intensive hands on programme provides participants
with practical examples mixed with current best practice
in clinical audit. The programme covers the key aspects
of Clinical Audit including the Clinical Audit Cycle,
Criteria Selection, Analysis and Process Improvement
Integrating
Governance in Healthcare
HCI offers a one day
programme to introduce the concepts of Governance.
This programme provides participants with the theory,
as well as practical examples, of Governance mechanism.
The programme covers the key aspects of Concepts of
Governance, Leadership, Accountability and Regulation.
Developing Practical Policies and Procedures
The
devil may be in the detail but the heartache lies
with the paperwork. This training programme focuses
on the benefits of effective policies and procedures.
It addresses how Policies and Procedures are the essential
first step in the development of any quality or safety
system. It looks at selection criteria, process assessment,
documentation and the positive outcomes that can be
achieved.
Tools
and Techniques for Continuous Quality Improvement
HCI
removes the jargon that is so often associated with
quality improvement to leave practical tools for everyday
use. It addresses how Tools and Techniques such as
flow charts, fish diagrams and parteo come together
to create tangible benefits. This training programme
utilises the techniques of the likes of Juran and
Shewart, and shows what worked in industry can work
in healthcare.
ISO 9001:2000 - A Framework
for Quality and Safety
ISO 9001:2000 is one of the
most internationally recognised quality and safety
frameworks. HCI
has extensive experience
in implementing this framework in the healthcare environment.
The programme addresses how to implement it in line
with the Plan, Do Check, Act (PDCA) cycle. It clarifies
the use of all aspects from Resource Management, to
Customer Focus to Measurability, in a manner that
all health professionals can use and appreciate the
framework.
Beneficial Internal
Auditing and Assessment
The core aspect of any system
of quality and/or safety improvement is the need to
stop and assess where we are, where we should be,
and how we are going to get there. The methodologies
employed by Beneficial Internal Auditing and Assessment
relate to health and safety audits, self assessments,
hygiene audits and regulatory compliance to name but
a few. This programme looks at best practice techniques
including Tracer Methodology, ISO 9011:2002 and Triangulation
utilising observation, interviews and documentation
review.
Implementing
Healthcare Accreditation
Accreditation has become the
most accepted quality and safety framework in the
Irish health system. Although predominate in the acute
sector, accreditation under its different guises is
spreading to all areas. This programme examines the
principles behind the accreditation framework applicable
to your area. It addresses the key questions of how
to project manage the process, how to prepare for
the survey and how to make accreditation work for
you and your organisation.
Utilising
Incident Reporting and Root Cause Analysis
The implementation of a quality
and safety system aims to rectify the problems, yet
problems do occur. The use of an effective incident
reporting system allows us to learn from our mistakes.
The HCI
programme examines the
different methods of reporting, from clinical incidents,
health and safety hazards to non-conformances. It
addresses the different methods of risk assessment
to aid in prioritisation, as well as the all important
use of the Root Cause Analysis methodology.
“We
pride ourselves on providing practical training programmes
that are tailored specifically to each client. Each
programme aims to ultimately result in providing safer
and a higher quality of care to patients and clients.”
