Patient/Resident Involvement
Seek Involvement... learn from working in partnership.
Patient/Resident Involvement in Healthcare is, at its heart, about healthcare service providers and consumers becoming aware of each other's perspectives; about changes in service delivery; about good working relationships in which issues can be resolved; about sharing problems and finding lateral solutions; about developing better communication and respect for each other.
It is a process of mutual adjustment. To some extent, these new relationships are still being developed. They are in their infancy and considerable work still needs to be done in relation to 'buy in' and supporting this "adjustment" for meaningful effect. If managed properly, it has the potential be a 'powerful tool for change'. However managed badly, it can erode public confidence and trust in the service and be seen as nothing but a tick box exercise for internal purposes.
